Where can I pitch a tent under the stars if I want to camp and come in to Butte to enjoy the Montana Folk Festival?
The Butte Vigilante Rodeo Grounds and Saddle Club at 6354 Albany (south on Highway 2 to mile marker 82 then left on Albany) is offering dry camping for $5 a night. Butte and the surrounding communities of Southwest Montana are surrounded by wilderness and the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Also, the Montana State Park system has started a reservation system where you can reserve a camping space in the area. Can I camp in city parks in Butte?
Light camping will be allowed in some Butte-Silver Bow Parks. These parks include McGruff Park on Shields Avenue, Copper Mountain Park off South Montana Street and Stodden Park on Dewey Avenue. Please pack in and out all garbage and wares. Limited to no spiking to avoid hitting a sprinkling line. No vehicles on the grass. No dumping. No fires.
There is no reservation for camping in Butte's municipal parks -- first come, first served. When bathrooms are limited, Porta Johns will be available. There is plenty of room for campers and RV's at Copper Mountain and Stodden Park, but no water, power or septic dumping is available.

Where can I park my RV in the Butte area?
Butte has three commercial campgrounds that accomodate RVs. The Butte KOA Kampground is located on Kaw Street just beside the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center and about a half mile from the Civic Center and festival shuttles. The 2 Bar Lazy H Campground is in Ramsey about five miles west of Butte, The Fairmont RV Campground is a few miles farther west near Fairmont Hot Springs.

What can I do close by the Montana Folk Festival?
While there will be plenty to do on the festival site, all around is Butte's historic central business district, home to specialty retail stores, museums, fine art galleries, and a couple dozen excellent restaurants.
